Hope starts at home.

Nearly three-quarters of women in prison are mothers, and many were the primary caregivers for their children prior to incarceration. In order for these women to be reunited with their children they must find a place to live. For many, reentry proves to be a bigger hurdle than prison time. This proves to be especially true for formerly incarcerated mothers who seek to be reunited with their children.

Beyond Shelter (In Production)

Beyond Shelter is a documentary film about affordable housing options for formerly incarcerated mothers. The project focuses on reentry issues for women, specifically mothers, and the lack of affordable housing options which hinders a successful reentry process. By focusing on this aspect of reentry, it will become apparent to the audience that, 1) without access to affordable housing, a woman cannot find a stable and safe place to live, 2) a woman cannot be reunited with her children 3) a woman cannot obtain a job, 4) a woman cannot reintegrate into society successfully, creating a greater dependence on social services and a higher chance of recidivism. The project is currently in production and scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2022.
